    • 1 cup McEwen & Sons Self-Rising Cornmeal*
    • 2/3 cup buttermilk
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter
    • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
    • 1/2 tablespoon sugar (optional)

    Directions:
    1.      Grease an 8-inch cast-iron skillet with oil or shortening and place it in the oven; preheat to 425°F.

    2.      In a bowl, combine all ingredients, stirring just until moistened.

    3.      Remove skillet from oven and pour batter into the hot skillet.

    4.      Bake at 425°F for 18 minutes or until lightly browned.
